Frankston Waterfront

In 2008, after 7 years on the Rye foreshore, Sand Sculpting Australia relocated to an exciting new venue – the Frankston Waterfront.  With Frankston beach, the pier and Ka

nanook Creek as a backdrop, the area was transformed as 3,500 tonnes of sand was carved into scenes from favourite childhood Fairytales & Fables from around the world. In the subsequent summers, we brought Dinostory, Great Moments in History and Creepy Crawlies to the Waterfront for a 4 month period.

Our newest and biggest event yet, ‘Toytopia’ will be opening soon.

We have again invited the best sculptors from around the world – from the Netherlands, Ireland and the UK, to Russia, the Czech Republic, Canada and the USA – to join with their Aussie workmates to form a team of 21 artists.  These creative and very talented people will work tirelessly for nearly 3 weeks to bring into being enormous yet finely detailed and lifelike sculptures that will take visitors into  a wondrous land where favourite childhood playthings from years gone by mix with those from today.

See spinning tops, a Jack-in-a-box, cuddly teddy bears, tin soldiers, building blocks, race cars, a rocking horse, dolls of every shape and size, and all the other toys that give joy to the young and the young at heart.

Integrated with the sand sculptures are our regular activities to keep the whole family entertained.  Why not try your hand at sand sculpting in our workshop area or play in our new, giant sand pit.

During school holidays and on weekends and public holidays, there will be many more activities available including Sand Art and Sand Bottles, entertainers from Cirque Mystique, and for the first time, Speed Carving will be showcased.

On a number of weekends throughout the exhibition, we will be co-ordinating with Frankston City Council to link in with some very special events.  For more information on these events, go to www.visitfrankston.com

Please note that this event is family oriented and child friendly, therefore it is a smoke free venue and alcohol is not permitted.  Likewise, dogs are not permitted within the exhibition (guide dogs, hearing guide dogs and guide dogs in training excepted).
